GALLERY WRAPPED CUSTOM CANVAS HARDWOOD PANELS

Hardwood Panels & The Masters

Canvas is perceived by many people to be the best support for painting,
but hardwood should not be shunned and in fact some would argue that it’s a
superior support as it’s rigid, not flexible like canvas.

Many of the paintings that have survived the best from previous centuries are
painted on wood panels. The surface being more rigid tends for less cracking of the paint.
Old Masters of the 14th & 15th centuries such as Michelangelo, Picasso and Van Gogh used
wood panels primed with a chalk like material for their work as there was no canvas.

The Mona Lisa painted by Leonardo da Vinci in 1503-06 survives today in almost perfect condition and with little cracking.

Although they are quite time consuming to construct, I have chosen to
use Custom Canvas Covered Hardwood Panels for my work.

Eggs in A Colander / k. Madison Moore

SOLD

Still Life Series
Certified Original Art © 2007Getting ready to do a lot off baking we placed two dozen eggs in a white colander. I was so happy that I caught the light reflections from the colander on the eggs. The contrast of the black and white gave this piece a contemporary feel. This was a challenging subject for me to paint.

Details: 8 x 10 inches, Oil on Canvas Hardwood Panel

Certified Original Art © 2007We just bought these Polka Dot Glasses for the upcoming holidays. When they were sitting on the glass top table in the morning light the reflections were so beautiful that I quickly caught it with my camera before the light changed. I liked the way they looked like they were interlocking in color and thought they would make a nice quick study.

Wicker Baskets / k. Madison Moore

SOLD

Still Life Series
Certified Original Art © 2007Over the years I collected beautiful, colorful woven wicker baskets.
I thought they would make a nice painting all piled up. They were softened by the
dimly lit corner they were standing in so I used an impressionist style with heavy
impasto to paint them. I also painted them larger than my normal at 11 x 14 inches.
